As an instructor, my pedagogical approach is one that centers critical thinking, inclusion, active engagement, and "real-world" applicability. I strive to offer a classroom environment in which students feel empowered to explore complex questions in politics and political science, while also challenging their own assumptions and finding ways that the process and concepts from class directly affect them and their interests.
I blend my lectures with collaborative projects and expeditions into recent happenings in politics. In doing so, I encourage students to engage deeply with the intersections of politics and the rest of the world.
Because of my efforts, I was recognized as Instructor of the Year for the 2023-2024 academic year by the School of Politics, Philosophy, and Public Affairs at Washington State University.
Below is a selection of reviews I have received from students, followed by an overview of the courses I have taught so far.
Student reviews
"One of my favorite professors by far. Made the course content clear and interesting. Provided a lot of help and feedback. WANTED students to succeed. I liked going to this class each week. "
"He is very interested in what he teaches and cares that we truly understand it and can apply it "
"Very valuable class that everyone should take whether they are on social media or not. "
"I enjoyed the variety of topics the discussion posts covered and enjoyed finding opportunities to connect them to real world events. "
"Professor Greer is an excellent professor. Gives a decent amount of work that is possible to get through as a full time student as it is highly organized, straightforward, easily applicable to real life, and he is always there to answer questions, give feedback, and accommodate students. "
"Professor Greer, you are the only one I have ever written this for but please don't change a thing unless it is to improve it even more. You are a simplistic teacher who is passionate, kind, helpful, and very knowledgeable. I really enjoyed your class. "
"He was very neutral and respected every point of view in class without giving opinions. He was also extremely understanding and made sure our class was was the best for the students and not just him "
"The strength of Edward Greer is that he provides a lot of examples of the political topics we are learning about. For example, when we were learning about interest groups, he brought up the NRA and AARP, so I immediately understood what we were learning about better. I didn't know anything about politics, so these examples were useful for me. "
"It was a pleasure to take a class instructed by Edward Greer, he was beyond respect of his students and the fact that we also had outside work. He helped us always and gave us so many tools to succeed in his class. I usually never like my professors but I only have positive things to say about Edward Greer. He truly is the best!!! "
"He was absolutely amazing throughout this whole semester, he was very welcoming to the students, and he was probably one of the only instructors that I have had here at WSU that made the learning fun and was super approachable. "
"He seems to answer questions thoughtfully and he almost always sees whenever someone has a question and answers it. He makes sure we are all understanding what is being discussed. "
"Everything in this course helped me learn a lot, and I think with the amount of open discussions that were had, it made it very easy to engage in this course "
"Edward clearly enjoys teaching this course and only wants his students to succeed and learn to love political science as much as he does. He brings a very positive energy and love of learning to the classroom. "
"He is a very enthusiastic professor, and he puts in plenty of effort both inside and outside of class to make sure people understand and succeed in this class. "
"Always put in a lot of effort when teaching this class, and was really good at elaborating on the points he put on his lecture slides. Also very engaging with the class and gave opportunities for people to participate and ask questions. He was also very willing to help if people needed it. "
"He's very nice and I feel comfortable talking with him. He knows what he's talking about and is always willing to answer tough questions. "
"Passionate about subject; cares about student success. "
